Fishing Report

Weekly Fishing Report 06.24.10 - posted June 24, 2010

CONDITIONS: All Park facilities are open. Summer is finally here.

WATER TEMPERATURE:   59 degrees

TROUT: (Rainbow, Cuttbow, Cutthroat, Brown) EXCELLENT TO SICK: The bite has not been this strong may be ever in recent memory. Granted most of the fish landed are those stocked in January through the ice but they are chunky and spunky. Try to find a lure that does not catch fish and you might have a hard time. If you go East and deeper bigger Rainbows to be had. Try Deer Island to Duck Island down 30 to 40 feet in deeper water. West end is where all the non stop action is. Limits abound. Take the kids and get them hooked on fishing.

KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR: The bite is not hot and heavy but big ones running 17 to 20 inches can be had. Deeper water holds the bigger fish. Goose Island and Duck to Deer Island for best chances. Late morning is good as well as very early.

NORTHERN PIKE: (no limit) POOR: You can catch the little ones but the big ones are a no show for time put in.

Weekly Fishing Report 06.17.10 - posted June 17, 2010

The fish don't care if it rains. Looks like non stop action.

WATER TEMPERATURE:   54 degrees   IN FLOW  299 CFS    OUT FLOW  300 CFS

CONDITIONS: All Park facilities are open. Last weeks rain helped alleviate some of the conditions.

TROUT: (Rainbow, Cuttbow, Cutthroat, Brown) EXCELLENT: The catching has been nothing short of spectacular. Lots and lots of action on the troll. Rainbows, Cutthroats and Cuttbows running 12 to 20 inches. Although mornings have been the best the fish seem to be hitting all day long. Lead Core trolling rigs and downriggers are kicking butt. LOts of spoons and lure working with Tasmanian Devils, Dick Nites and Arnies being some of the best. No shortage of action for the cowbell crew. Shore action is also strong particularly on the South Shore. Although the nnight fishing has been the best plenty of day tiime action to be had on Crawlers, Power Bait and Marshmallows.

KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR: We are catching them but limts are hard to come by. Most folks scoring two to five on a trip. Downriggers are helpful with some fish holding 30 to 40 feet down. Dodgers, Sling Blades with a hoochie and a piece of corn do well. Tasmanian Devils, Kastmasters, Needlefish and Krocodiles do well. After can be better than the morning unless you are out at the crack of dawn.

NORTHERN PIKE:: FAIR TO POOR: Oh well, they just won’t cooperate. Lots of time yields minimal fish. Try all the baits in the box. Daredevle and Husky Jerks a good play.

MARINA HOURS: MONDAY – SUNDAY 7:00AM – 7:00PM

Great action on a blue and white Dick Nite. Blue? yes Blue.

WATER TEMPERATURE:  52 degrees     IN FLOW  395 CFS        OUT FLOW   131 CFS

CONDITIONS: All Park facilities and fishing access areas are open. The hatch is on the wane and should be over any day. Lots of water coming into the lake.

TROUT: (Rainbow, Cuttbow, Cutthroat, Brown) GOOD TO VERY GOOD: With the hatch just about over the fish have the urge to fill that stretched stomach. Along with  favorable water temperature and the large in flow stirring up food the bite is on! Rainbows and Cutthroats 14 to 23 inches. Action can be fast and furious. Lots of different lures working on the troll. Shore action is great at night with some of the best catching in years. Hobert, Rocking Chair and Rodgers Mt. are hot.

KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR: The bite is sporadic and  is best when the wind is blowing. Look to North Shore to Goose Island and Rocky Flats to Rocking Chair. Trolling spoons such as Needlefish and Arnies along with selected Tasmanian Devils do well as well as Dodgers and Sling Blades.

NORTHERN PIKE: POOR: The bite was strong through the ice but has been coming up short in open water. Small fish the order of the day. Lots of time little pay off. Work the drop offs of rocks around Deer Island and Witchers Cove in addition to North Shore to Rocky Flats. Throw the big stick baits or troll Stoll Mtn along the over flow channel to Cross Creek.

MARINA HOURS: EVERYDAY 7:00AM to 7:00PM. Finally recieved a shipment of Tasmanian Devils which have been hard to come by of late.

ITS TIME TO FISH!!!

Weekly Fishing Report 06.03.10 - posted June 3, 2010

On a day when catching was difficult for most an 11 Mile Marina guided trip landed this stringer in addition to numerous fish released.

WATER TEMPERATURE: 51        IN FLOW  102 CFS       OUT FLOW  55.1 CFS

CONDITIONS: All Park facilities are open. The hatch is on. The annual “may fly” midge hatch that usually occurs in May has just started and should be around for the the next week. They don’t bite but they do get in your face. Keep the mouth closed. The fish are getting fat and happy. County Road 90 and 92 from Lake George is a shambles. Call Park County Road  and Bridge 719-836-4291 to voice your concern.

TROUT: (Rainbow, Cuttbow, Cutthroat, Brown) FAIR TO GOOD: Action will be slowed by the hatch. Fish early for best results. Spawning Rainbows are continuing to show up along the shoreline. This usually occurs right at ice off but it is happening now. Big fish to six plus pounds being landed. The west end is holding lots of Cutthroats and Cuttbows running 12 to 14 inches. Action is fast and furious from sun up until about 10:00AM. A few large Browns also showing up. Look to Rapala’s, Kastmasters, Dick Nites and Arnies to do the trick. Shore anglers scoring on Power Bait, crawlers and marshmallows.

KOKANEE SALMON: FAIR TO IMPROVING DAILY: Anglers are seeing action improve by the day. One’s and two’s turning into four’s and five’s. North Shore to Goose Island has been good with fish being caught all the way up to Lazy Boy. Windy conditions help. Pinks and greens consistent. Try a Sling Blade and a Hootchie with one kernal of white corn. Fish suspended from 12 to 30 feet.

NORTHERN PIKE:(no limit) POOR TO FAIR: A few good fish turn up here and there but lots of time results in minimal fish. All things considered with the season being late look to the next couple of weeks for significant  improvement.

SMALL MOUTH BASS: FAIR. Catchem if you can and you can if you try. Fish the rocks with tube jigs.

SPINNEY MOUNTAIN RESERVOIR: GOLD MEDAL WATER FLIES AND LURE ONLY. NO SCENT PRODUCTS:  The Northern action has been good with large fish being caught. Trout action is good to excellent from shore and boat. The hatch may slow the bite.

SOUTH PLATTE RIVER: GOOD 102 CFS. The flow just came up and action has improved significantly.

SUMMER HOURS: 7:00AM – 7:00PM MONDAY – SUNDAY.

WEEKLY FISHING REPORT 05.27.10 - posted May 26, 2010

He saw, he casted, he caught! Randy,11 Mile Marina guide, was doing dock work when he saw a few nice Rainbows swim by. He grabbed the rod with a 1/8 Kastmaster and hooked up on the first cast.

WATER TEMP: 48.5 – 50 degrees       IN FLOW:  59.8 CFS  OUT FLOW:  51.5 CFS

CONDITIONS: All Park facilities are open except Witchers Cove boat ramp. Call 719-748-3401 for updates on when it will open. (possibly Memorial Weekend). Water is still very cold. May 24 saw some of the worst wind ever here at the lake  causing major damage to the marina slip docks. We may or may not have them repaired by the weekend. Winds have subsided for now. Morning temps are still in the high 20’s and low 30’s warming up nicely in the afternoon. Holiday forecast looks better than it has been. We can only hope.

TROUT: (Rainbow, Cuttbow, Cutthroat, Brown) FAIR TO GOOD: Although the water is still cold action on the west end where temps are slightly warmer is seeing a strong bite between 8:30AM and 9:30 AM with action decent up until about 3:00PM. Rapala’s have been strong as usually is the case in ice out conditions which we are still in. Taz Devils, Kastmasters and Arnies Reflecto also do well. Shore anglers are seeing spawner Rainbows just showing up. Corral Cove has been particularly good. North Shore seeing cruisers and biters. Variety of baits, lures and flies are productive.

KOKANEE SALMON: POOR TO FAIR: Still early yet. A few are biting here and there but look to mid June for better action.

NORTHERN PIKE: POOR TO FAIR: Action has improved slightly with a few smaller fish showing up on the west end. Occasional lunk caught from shore at Rocky Flats and North Shore. Large Rapala’s and white tube jigs.

MARINA HOURS: MONDAY – FRIDAY  7:00AM – 7:00PM
