ELEVEN MILE RESERVOIR: Eleven Mile State Park is in South Park, an expansive high altitude grassland region of central Colorado, 50 miles west of Colorado Springs. The Park is bordered on two sides by the Pike National Forest. The surrounding mountains, including Pikes Peak, the Tarryall Range and the snowy peaks of the Continental Divide,

Complement the Eleven Mile’s own scenic reservoir, short grasses and rocky outcroppings. This remarkable setting is home to tremendous recreation opportunities.

Eleven Mile’s waters have surrendered some of the largest fish ever taken in Colorado.

WATER FLOW: 107  CFS IN  114 CFS OUT

CONDITIONS: The lake will open for boating at 5:15AM Saturday morning. The Witchers Cove boat ramp will be closed for the time being but will be open at some point in time. Water temperature 41 degrees. Water clarity fair to poor. All other access areas are open. Snow and rain has made for soggy conditions. Weather report for the weekend looks good.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT: There is no doubt that pressure was brought to bare where it needed to be applied through your calls and emails. Special thanks to Kevin Tobey, Park Manager for his tireless efforts to get this lake open.

TROUT: (Rainbow, Brown, Cutthroat, Cuttbow, Splake) GOOD TO VERY GOOD: Shore action has been superb for large fish. The spawn is in full swing and we imagine the bigger fish are in the shallows for at least the next week. Flies, bait and lures all working. Its hard to tell how boaters will fare but we suspect it could be slow since the water is still very cold.

KOKANEE SALMON: NO REPORT

NORTHERN PIKE: NO REPORT

SPINNEY MOUNTAIN STATE PARK: GOLD MEDAL WATER (Flies and lures only, no scent products, one fish must be 20” or bigger) The catching is typical Spinney. Great! Lots of action but mostly in the shallows. The south boat ramp to the dam is seeing fish in just a few feet of water. Lots of different things working. South boat ramp is closed and the water level is low. The main boat dock is difficult to use. The break water system is not in place given the resources dedicated to the mussel inspections so when the wind kicks up the ramp is a dangerous place.

SOUTH PLATTE RIVER (Between Eleven Mile and Spinney) Gold Medal water, Catch and Release, flies and lures only: 107 CFS. Action consistent.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK:(top of page) Alex has gotten back from college. No sooner did we put the rental dock in place then he caught this nice Bow on a 1/8 Gold Kastmaster. It had just stopped snowing and blowing.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The 6th ANNIVERSARY PARTY: June 6, 7 & 8

When people talk about tough economic times and fears of recession rumble through the public psyche, here at 11 Mile Marina we seem unfazed at least in spirit. In 2002 when we signed the contract with the State of Colorado to build a new marina concession at this world famous fishing impoundment the future looked bright. Within days of signing the contract the Haymen Fire, the largest wildfire in Colorado history, was started just a few miles from Lake George by Terry Barton, a National Forest employee.  Within a few weeks the Denver Water Department would start to draw down the reservoir to 47% of capacity due to extreme drought conditions. No one had ever seen such a dramatic drop in levels as the lake quickly became inaccessible to boating.  To experience and survive an economic disaster of the proportion and magnitude of the one caused by such events is reason enough to rejoice and celebrate. Although we feel tough economic times just like everyone else, when compared to the past disaster at least we can still party which is something we couldn’t do in 2002. Come join us for a weekend of boating, fishing and fun as we celebrate our sixth anniversary and host many special events including prize giveaway, free fishing seminars, free paddle sports demo, free live music, free barbecue and the possibility of free beer. Only the finest 3.2 will do.
