IT’S ABOUT THE CATCHING

MARINA MARCH MADNESS MARCH 7 EPIC ICE OFF EVENT

CURRENT CONDITIONS: ICE OFF Lake is 80% open water. All of West end is open and fishable from shore. There is some ice on the East end. We did get about 6 inches of snow Monday night into Tuesday. Most has already melted. This is prime time ice off catching conditions. When you go you need to go prepared for all weather conditions. Saturday weather forecast looks good. Possible snow Friday but it’s Spring conditions with quick melting.

This time you will qualify if you have the big fish in each Division and the second biggest fish in each Division. Four poker chips will be in the bucket with random draw the winner of the Pot. 25 Points for BFP. It’s Marina March Madness and meant to make things fun. Of course if you catch the biggest fish and don’t get drawn you are not happy but it’s all about getting a chip in the game and we have always done it that way but it was 6 poker chips previously. Earn bonus points for any and all Pike brought in. They do not have to be part of your bag weight.

TOYOTA TACOMA: It’s like a hole in one chance but it’s possible. Colorado Springs Toyota Dealers Association has purchased insurance from ODDS ON PROMOTIONS. They have sent us a secret two digit winning number. To qualify you must be in all three contests. Currently there are 80 qualified teams. If you enter all three individually you qualify along with Colorado Classic participants who are all qualified. You must weigh in at least one fish to qualify 14” minimum length. You will have a weigh in ticket. The two numbers to the right of the decimal point are your lucky numbers. All qualifying teams will have a poker chip with their team number on it. Random draw from the bucket is the team that gets to match the pre chosen number to win a 2026 Tacoma. It’s Marina March Madness and meant to be FUN!!

NO HAND CARRY BOATS or FLOAT TUBES for contest: Although they are allowed by regulation CPW is not quite prepared for water rescue and we do not want to take the risk.

ICE OFF IS TROPHY TIME!!

TROUT: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: It’s been less than a week for Ice Off action and it is getting better by the day. This time of year all baits work at some point. If you are in the contest one bait pole and one spin casting or fly rod is the way to go with second rod stamp of course. We go thru the box with heavy emphasis on tube jigs and Kastmasters. Night Crawlers/mallow, power bait (we like Chartreuse) and anyone with garlic scent. Flies to like are Leaches and Wooly Buggers. Stop in for the latest updates.

SALMON:NO REPORT: No ice no salmon.

NORTHERN PIKE: NO REPORT: Haven’t heard from anyone yet accept for some one who got one on Chartreuse Power Bait. We like Rapalas, big spoons, Kastmasters. It was one of the best ice seasons for Pike even if it was a short season.

ROAD: GOOD: They have chip and sealed the road from Lake George to CR/92 then dirt for about 2 miles then chip and seal to the General Store. The 2 miles of loose dirt and gravel is getting wash boarded and in POOR condition but still a small section of the 10 mile ride in.

CR92/59 to 23: FAIR TO POOR : The no chip and seal 2 mile section from 90/92 turn to 92 has seen better days.

PIC # 1: Sundown at main boat ramp. Black Marabou 1/4 oz. Caught and released waiting on you!

PIC # 2: Down from Denver with some friends got this nice one. Pic courtesy Mark K.

PIC # 3: His last fish out of the ice and his biggest Pike ever out of the ice pushing 14lbs.

PIC # 4: Her first Ice Off fish of the season. Nice 18” on tube jig.

PIC # 5: Today at Corral Cove. Possibly the last fishable ice.
