Don’t go unprepared and try not to go to far from shore. For you motor boaters time for the annual checklist: Battery, connections, boat plug etc. Make sure PFD’s and safety equipment is on board.

SPINNEY MOUNTAIN STATE PARK: Opens to shore fishing Friday April 3. If draught conditions continue it is unlikely that the lake will be able to service boats this season.

11 MILE MARINA PRESENTS THE ELEVEN MILE/SPINNEY PIKE A THON: In cooperation with CPW 11 Mile Marina will be trying out a new event. We use to have an annual Pike tournament which was sanctioned by CPW. They believed it is was a worthy event to help keep Pike at a good balance. We stopped doing it because the business market changed. It was an event to help business in slow times but now weekends in September are always busy and the contest got in the way. The objective now is to educate people about the Northern Pike species. How to catch them, how to clean them, how to eat them. And how to hold them LOL. Historically Northern Pike were introduced to help control other specie such as suckers. Without the proper balance Pike can overrun a lake as they generally don’t differentiate between suckers, trout and other specie. The only main predator the Pike have are anglers. The Pike situation at Eleven Mile is currently one of good balance. Spinney is another story where the numbers of Pike are larger than CPW would like. We are setting up a page on the CONTEST LINK with all the details. The event will be held from May 2 - May 16. There will be seminars on Saturday the 2nd and the 9th. A fish fry on the 16th. Participants will be able to weigh in fish for two weeks. Heaviest weight will win a minimum of $500.00. Still working on details which will be posted soon on the dedicated page.

CATCH YOUR TROPHY NOW

TROUT: GOOD: Action is good with a fair number of Browns showing up and nice ones at that. Many different baits are working depending on the time of the day. Big fish are still in the shallows spawning. Go through the tackle box to find the right lure and color. Just when you think you found the hot bait they stop hitting it.

SALMON:NO REPORT:

NORTHERN PIKE: GOOD: As the water warms the action continues to pick up. Look to big sticks like the Rapala F-18 Pike Pattern and J-13 in gold or black. Work the shoreline in more than one spot and wind is your friend if it’s at your back. Again go through the tackle box and try a variety of baits.

PARK COUNTY BOCC: They continue to ignore the issue. CR 90 was chip and sealed with a grant with the other chip and seal section to the General Store done by mistake and not done properly. BOCC rep Amy Mitchell hung her hat on legislation. How did that go Amy? Crickets out of the BOCC.

ROAD: GOOD: They have chip and sealed the road from Lake George to CR/92 then dirt for about 2 miles then chip and seal to the General Store. The 2 miles of loose dirt and gravel is getting wash boarded and in fair to poor condition but still a small section of the 10 mile ride in. It has been graded from time to time. The new chip and seal installed by mistake and not done as well as the CR90 section is seeing some wear due to the heavy logging equipment going in and out. Crickets out of Park County BOCC. For now the way in from Lake George is still way better than last year.

CR92/59 to 23: POOR : The no chip and seal 2 mile section from 90/92 turn to 92 has seen better days. They graded CR 23 to CR59 then to the cattle guard before the Park. They refuse to do the section through the Park insisting the State is responsible.
