CURRENT FIRE BAN PARK COUNTY STAGE 2: Propane grills allowed. Propane fire rings also allowed. No change yet. Stage 1 would be nice but it takes a while for conditions to get there. Regular afternoon rain is a start. Hopefully we will get out of this Ban soon. It’s gotten nice and green for a change.

STOP IN FOR THE MOST UP TO DATE CATCHING INFO: Wear your 11 Mile Marina logo hat, shirt, etc get 10% storewide discount on your purchase, some restrictions apply. Some folks come in only to ask where are the fish, what are they biting on and what’s the best spot which we oblige and then they head out the door without barely saying thanks or even buying themselves an ice cream. We are here to help you catch but given the fire ban draught Summer and the negative impact on camping and business in general we could use your patronage in addition to your questions about where are the fish. AND many many thanks to those that do support us and our great store.

CRAWFISH BOILS IN AUGUST: As a fundraiser for FHNB we will host our annual crawfish boils weekends in August. $12.00/plate. SECOND BOIL SUNDAY AUGUST 16. FHNB hosts BBQ on Saturday. Then Boils the following Sundays through August 30. Starting time approximately Noon while supplies last. We use our staff and equipment to catch the crawfish, we do the boil and play host. $2.00 per plate goes to the boil fixins and $10.00 per plate goes to FHNB. We served 56 plates at the last boil. Come on out and help us help them.

We have been working with FHNB for over 20 years assisting in fundraising efforts. They use to host their annual event here at Eleven Mile taking disabled kids fishing. The event outgrew the capacity here and was moved to Pueblo State Park. FHNB is a Colorado Springs based 501C3 organization founded by Dan and Cheryl Saldano. They will be here Sundays to answer questions and sign up volunteers for this years event to be held on September 26 and 27th at the South Shore Marina. Looking forward to seeing you at the Boil!

TROUT:FAIR TO GOOD: If you spoke to anyone yesterday they would tell you catching was POOR and it probably was for many. One Skunkelberry Fin excuse after another. It was too hot, too calm, too weedy etc. There are days like that. BUT there are some great catches being had. Boaters trolling are having trouble with weeds. Even those that fancy themselves Guide’s who use pop gear and a nightcrawler are finding slow times. When we guide we would never use that method of catching. We are professionals and don’t use worms or pop gear, catch plenty of fish and have a great experience for the clients using ultra light equipment Not that blades and a worm don’t work we just don’t feel guides who know the lake well need to be using worms. That’s meat fishing not sport fishing in our book To each their own. This time of year calls for adjusting tactics. We are doing great on tube jigs. If you have never tried them maybe it’s time you did. Stop in and we can talk to you a little bit about them. Shore anglers doing well on variety of baits like Power Bait, salmon eggs and worms. Those pitching Kastmasters from shore catching fish.

STOCKING TRUCKS ARRIVE: Given Antero and many lakes are off line the fish they planned on stocking have to go some where and here they come. Normally stocking is done through the ice but 30,000 Cuttbows are headed this way. Since the lake will be getting more pressure this is a good thing. Bring the kids to North Shore and sure to catch something in the next week or two.

KOKANEE SALMON:POOR TO FAIR: It’s been a challenge of late. But fish still being caught on the troll in areas of deeper water along the channel. Weeds are not a problem in that regard. No one single bait can be relied on. Be prepared to change up. Macks Wedding rings still doing well as well as pink and white Needlefish and #55 Tas Devil. Pop gear and dodgers get hot once in a while but cannot be relied on.

NORTHERN PIKE: GOOD TO VERY GOOD: Lots of great action continues all around the lake. We like points East. Less crowd bigger fish. West end active along the weed beds. Fire Tiger patterns in almost any bait draws their attention. Big sticks like Rapala Husky Jerks and others working well. Spoons like the traditional gold Kastmaster can also produce. Spinner Baits should also be in the rotation. Even catching them on the tubes. You lose a few in the process.
