TROUT: FAIR TO GOOD: The bite had slowed considerably for many. Talk of August and “the dog days of Summer” were bantered about. Skunk excuses for our book were also running the gamut. We liked the new one “I hadn’t fished for a longtime and I was out of practice”. But then yesterday happened. Eleven Mile might have a slow streak from time to time but they generally don’t last more than three days in a row. Lots of big fish were landed this past week and yesterday in particular. They were caught on many different baits and it seemed the lake just had one of those super hot days that cannot be predicted by those that like to predict. Tube jigs are coming on with color preferences changing daily. Lots of crawfish in those big fish and there are lots of crawfish for them to eat. Rapala’s and Needlefish continue a strong Summer run. Night crawler/mallow always a good bet from shore.

SALMON: FAIR TO POOR: Nothing has changed much here. At least there are a few anglers still popping one or two. Right place right time. Have not seen anyone really score big numbers but for those that put in the time two or three are possible. Best action has been straight out from Marina in 60 feet of water. It’s a onezee twozee thing. But still nice to see.

NORTHERN PIKE: FAIR TO GOOD: Bigger fish getting a little more aggressive. Smaller ones still fill the void but there are anglers with more stories of “the one that got away” Tube jigs, Stick Baits and Bill’s Spinner Bait producing. Mid to late morning a good time. Yesterday’s strong bite included the Pike too. But lots of stories and no pic’s for proof lol. You know the excuses. We have all used them. That fish ran so hard and fast. Got em right up to the boat and bam just like that broke me off. It was a big one! Hmmmm. I believe them…well some of them.

ROAD: FAIR TO GOOD TO POOR: With a great Summer here being tarnished by the Park County road disaster that we all have had to endure it’s nice to see them scurry with effort of late. CR90 from Lake George to CR92 was worked on two weeks ago. It is starting to get a little washboard here and there and is dusty but still better than it was. CR92 to the General Store is about as good as it has been all Summer and is almost a pleasure to drive on all things considered. CR23 and some of CR59 has seen work and improvement but CR92 from General Store through the Park to Stoll Mtn has been ignored and is really bad. So although we have seen effort and some significant improvement that’s not to say they deserve thanks because they don’t. This situation was caused by them and blown off and ignored until the public pressure reached a boiling point and should have been dealt with weeks ago. The way construction fraud works is the contractor hired to do the job cuts corners and does not provide the quality install that was contracted for. Not saying this is what happened last year but its a best case scenario for the BOCC because they can argue “we were led to believe”. There has to be a reason why the road they thought would be good for 3 to 5 years lasted 2 or 3 months. Investigation and audit is appropriate but don’t expect much transparency out of this bunch.

Here is a quote from BOCC member Amy Mitchell dated July 15 in response to me begging and pleading for dust mitigation. “ It looks like monsoon is here. We will keep an eye on the moisture levels and conditions. No promises, as we need the water trucks to perform road maintenance but we do understand the issue” Banking on the weather to mitigate a health hazard they created is ludicrous and not indicative of “understanding the issue” of subjecting people to toxic dust clouds for weeks on end. Luckily what they have done from Eleven Mile Village to General Store this past week has currently mitigated the dust.
